REVERE

DEMOGRAPHICS: The city of Revere is located three miles north of Boston, has a population of over 43,000 people, and an area of 6.32 square miles. The city is very diverse with a mix of homes, apartment buildings, commerical and industrial businesses. A pluthera of stores and businesses can be found along Route 60 as well as other parts of the city. A large cinema complex is located near the Malden border, which occupies the space of a once popular drive in theatre. U.S. Route 1 is the only major highway in the city. The city is serviced by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and has a number of bus lines in addition to the blue line subway service. Once of the most popular attractions in the city is the famous Revere Beach. At one time the beach offered amusements and other attractions, but those have been replaced by condo complexes. Still, the beach is crowded during the summer with many lining up at the famous Kelly's Roast Beef. Revere does not have a hospital within its borders, however patients may opt for Whidden Hospital in Everett or the Mass General in Boston.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT - THEN AND NOW: The Revere Fire Department has signigicantly upgraded it's equipment over the last few years. Apparatus responds from four stations, with a unique firehouse being built. This station, which will be located on the Malden line, is unique in that it will be occupied by an engine company from both Malden and Revere. This is the first dual occupancy station in the Metro-Boston area. When completed, Engine 3 will be relocated to this station. Also under construction, is new quarters for Engine 1 and Ladder 1. Fire Alarm is still operated by firefighters at the headquarters station and the frequency of 154.175 has remained unchanged. The department staffs four engines, two ladders, and one shift deputy chief. In 1993, the apparatus roster consisted of mostly Mack and Pierce. Today the department operates with all Pierce equipment. The color scheme has remained white/red. Still remaining on the roster from 1993 are the two 1989 Pierce pumpers and Ladder 1's Pierce rear-mount aerial. Engine 4 Dash pumper is in service as Engine 3 and Engine 1's former Lance is in reserve as Engine 2. Ladder 1 is still in front line service. Both Ladder 1 and Engine 3 are scheduled to be replaced soon. Revere responds to medical emergencies on a first responder basis with Cataldo Ambulance providing transport services.
