Before sending in apparatus order information: Please verify that it is true and correct. While I know everyone has the best of intentions and mean well, posting order information that is not true can be detrimental. Many chief officers and apparatus dealers read this site and posting an order that has not actually been placed can cause hard feelings and tension between a department, the town, and the sales people. So, please make sure your information is accurate before submitting it. Thank you.

Boston is set to take delivery of Rescue 1's new Pierce Quantum heavy rescue. I believe it's considered a 2006, but don't quote me on that yet. The rig is painted white/red. Southwest Harbor, Maine took delivery just before Christmas of a Ferrara Intruder II rescue pumper. The truck has a 1500 GPM Waterous pump, 1000 gallon poly tank, and a FoamPro 1600 foam system. Springfield, MA has announced that they will be reopening the Massreco Street station in the Pine Point section of the city. It is expected to reopen in October and will house Engine 16. A large reason for this sudden change of heart by the City came about on Sunday January 7, 2007. A mother and son were killed in the 42 Nathaniel Street fire that destroyed their home just after 0600 hrs. The citizens of the Pine Point neighborhood believe that if Station 16 had been open, the Mother and son would still be alive today. Station 16 is exactly .9 miles away from the fire scene, the next closest station was 1.93 miles away. The home, unfortunately had no working smoke detectors and the SFD attributes that to why this fire was the City of Springfield's first fatal fire since November 2005. West Bridgewater, MA will be tearing down their fire station by the end of the month with the new station being built at the current location. It is expected that the new station will be operational by early 2008. Amherst, MA is facing possible layoffs to stay within the next fiscal budget. 5 firefighters and 2 police officers are slated to be cut on July 1st. This situation is not unique to Amherst, as many departments have been facing budget problems. My department in Stoneham is looking to lay off several more firefighters this July. We already lost a number of firefighters to lay off and attrition, making the current staffing levels well below what would be deemed to be safe. It never ceases to amaze me how the politicians say fire and police are the first line of defense in this new area of terrorism, yet we are the first ones to be cut. Stoneham had more fire and police on the streets before 9-11 then we do now. Please join local author and Lowell Fire Department Lieutenant Jason T. Strunk on Thursday, January 25th, 2006 at 6 PM at the Pollard Memorial Library, 401 Merrimack Street, for the public release of his new book. Lt. For more information contact the Pollard Memorial Library at 978-970-4120. The Benton County Fire District in WA is collecting old Nomex hoods to send to the guys and gals in Iraq. Here is the explanation from an Army Major: I've run across a need here that I wanted to run past you. The weather has gotten rather chilly here (40 degrees over night) and all of the cold weather gear the Army is issuing now is all moisture wicking synthetic fibers that melt to your skin when they burn. Since some of the hits cause vehicles to burn, there is a reasonable chance that soldiers may have to extricate themselves or get rescued from a burning vehicle. Therefore, synthetics are a really bad choice. Does BCFD#1 have any light weight nomex hoods that aren't getting used anymore or are past their life span that we could distribute to soldiers here that would provide both warmth and fire protection?. If you or your department has old Nomex hoods, they are being collected by: c/o Capt. Jock Thompson 144610 E. Law Lane Kennewick, WA. 99337 |
